Can the HOA cut off water if the owner does not pay assesment? Our association, is strugling with paying bills- the building of 12 HOA units doesnt have separate water bills, its in Illinois. Please help! Thank you!

Our assoc. cuts off t.v. and internet service to accounts > 60 days past due. It's the best collection tool we have. Water is the same idea except has some public health concerns attached.

I STONGLY recommend you check with an attorney. Many municipalities have laws which prohibit that due to health issues.

You definitely need to speak with an attorney with regard to state laws. In Florida Condominiums, the statutes prohibit preventing the unit owner (or leasee) from using any of the facilities, common elements, commonly provided utilities, and voting rights. Under HOA's the law is a little different.

We've got 1-2 owners in our 20-unit Florida Condo - who rent-out their units, but then, don't pay their HOA fees. One is in foreclosure. Seems like the HOA has no real leverage (beyond lien threat) - Any thoughts/suggestions.

I live in a condo development and received a letter from a lawyer that wants accelerated association fees(8 months in advance).

Is this legal?
