Credit card mess with condo association

I opened up a credit card in the Condo Association's name in order to pay the bills until the assessement could be done or until fees were raised. It got out of hand so I gave it to another Property Management Company to take over. They do not want to take over the credit card which is in the Condo Association name and backed with my social security number. They said they will pay it but they want me to pay the $2,000 in interest since the condo board did not know I took it out. What do you think?

if the condo board didn't know about the credit card and approve its use, then you're totally on the hook, personally, for the interest. why would you do something like that without their approval?

In what capacity are you serving the association? As stated I agree that you are responsible for the interest.

I hate to pile on, but I'm with the other two. If the board didn't know you were doing it, then I'd say you are nuts and responsible for the entire balance. You should consider it a gift that the management company is willing to pay the principle owed on the card. I can honestly say that I'm not sure I would if you did that without proper authorization.

If you were acting in some official capacity, I would certainly make sure I had documentation of that. Otherwise, I'm not sure you have a legal leg to stand on and should be appreciative of what they offer to pay.

The other possibilty is to get on the board so you have some authority of what gets paid and what doesn't. then, I suppose you could submit the bill to the association for reimubursement.
