I have mold in bathroom shower and tub and condo building wants me to fix it but I have no money. What will happen about this?  Lien on unit or other residents of building will get assessed for the cost?

Did the mold come from a leak inside the unit? Do you own the unit or rent it? What State do you live in?

Find the money. Fix it. You are endangering the entire condominium plus yourself. That said, most mold is not dangerous. But, it must be repaired. And remember: it is the Board's duty to ensure the safety of the entire condo. They must act. they can;t pretend that your problem doesn't exist.

I have an attic full of mold. I have been trying to get the board o clean it up since September of last year. The board had two contractors in for a visual and they said I do not have mold.I was at a meeting yesterday. Brought a petri dish with the test mold showing that I do have mold. They said I have to wai my turn. They will not give me date. They say it can be two years until they get to the problem.

My documents state that the owner is resppnsible for all parts of the unit.
If something needs to be done and the hoa cant or doesnt do it that doesnt mean that i just let my property rot.

I can sue for reimbursement. Some things just have to be done.

Based on a lot of years as a General Contractor in Florida ...

Mold is not always a problem. It depends on the type of mold. When a building/unit/area has the mold remediated, the accepted level of "clean" is that the mold level inside is the same as the outside.

There's mold everywhere.

Is your bathroom vented? Are you running the vent fan? Is the mold on the surface only? Like mentioned earlier, you need to know where it's coming from first.

I.ve had a hateful, ireesponsible upstairs neighbot damge my downstairs condo unit 3 times in 3-4 months last year, 2 rooms twice, one large room after a repair. The owner refused to act, I was forced to call my insurer twice, who then refused to consider future damages by this neighbor, and simultaneously threatening me, in writing, that additional claims would result in a loss of my coverage. I had black fuzzy mold visible in one room after the second ceiling leaked o to his unsealed deck, a deck which he claimed he had sealed, but hadn't. The master bath's ceiling continues to sustain damage though initially the upstairs owner & Allstate denied any leak. After the second leak in the master bath, an unsealed drain leak was discovered by his Home Warranty people. The smell in that bath has not abated, and I just had a mold test before opening the ceiling, hich I've hesitated to do, without knowing if all leaks upstairs have been addressed. My condo Board President emailed me after months of pleading with the Management company & the President to help mitigate the on going damages to three rooms in my condo (2 have been damaged twice). The Presiden repled in an email to me:"this is a homeowner-to-homeowner issue and to stop bothering her. Same with the management company, who acts at the discretion of the sitting Board. My insurance rates rose by $400-600.00 per year, and recently, one agent told me that due to 2 H.O. claims in early 2010, my rates were over the top and would remain that way. I have a heart condition (compromising my immune system), the mold may be an issue, and I've moved out of my master bedroom an keep that room's bathroom door closed at all times. Due to the smell, a few contractors I've contacted to fix the ceiling just won't touch it. I've never, not in 40 years, ha such a situation and simply do not know wht to do next or in whih order. Any advice is welcomed. GA Condo Owner! Please respond to: whineoff@yahoo.com
