Can our condo association charge a pet fee for upkeep?
Question:
I live in a complex that has both townhomes and condos. There are two condo buildings that have a no pet rule and owners are aware of this rule when they buy. Recently, we have had some people who have gotten pets and given notes saying they need the pet for comfort or psychological reasons. The owners without pets have tried to say they can't have a pet but we were told that the disabilities law prohibits us from denying these pet. Now they want to change the CCR rules to allow pets. Do we have to allow pets now or just pets to people with a need? Also, if we do have pets can we charge a pet fee to cover more frequent cleaning of hall carpets and replacing the carpets? I live in California.
