Can we run criminal background checks on new condo buyers?

Our condo association wants to review potential owners prior to allowing them to purchase a unit in our building. I have reviewed the new bylaw language and find it vague and restates the fact that the condo association does not want criminals or dishonest people purchasing a unit. What is the suggested bylaw language that would quickly and efficiently implement this?  Punta Gorda, Florida
