Does ownership held in trust exempt CA unit from CC&Rs?

One owner in our California condo insists that because his unit is owned by a trust, he is not bound by CC&Rs and bylaws.

Our CC&Rs ban short term rentals. He thinks the trust makes him exempt.

I have never heard of this before. I doubt that how ownership is held makes any difference when it comes to CC&Rs and bylaws. Does anyone have information on this?
