I was overcharged on condo late fees

Question:

I was charged an assessment because the property management company said I did not comply timely. So they claimed they assessed $10 a day for a total of $300. When questioned how did they come up with that amount. I never received a bill they sent an email with a breakdown (which to me is not a legal document). I reviewed my by laws and regulations for my homeowners and could not find any wording regarding timely. Now it was turned over to a lawyer for collection and a lien placed on my property totaling over $1,500. I refuse to pay because its not right this HOA and these lawyers don't have the right to ruin my credit. I have never missed or been late on monthly dues. I would like to know my recourse in taking this HOA and this lawyer to court to have the lien removed and the unfunded assessment.
