Should condo owner go after association for ceiling damage?

Question:

We have discovered during the renovation of our condo that the ceiling has pulled away from the concrete truss system. We have a building permit open and in an effort to keep our project on schedule the contractor has removed the ceiling. My question is should we be seeking compensation from the the association for the ceiling replacement? And if so what information beyond photos should I be gathering?
