Sun Shade Wanted for Condo, Board Says No.

Question:

We want to have a retractable sun shade awning installed over the patio area of our condo. Our condo board will not allow it saying it will attract bugs and mildew. Since this will be energy efficient do they have the right to refuse to let us have one installed?
