Condo owner considering installation of ventless gas fireplace

I am a condo unit owner in a Pennsylvania Condo Association, and would like to install a gas fireplace in my living room. The problem is that the condo unit is not set up for ventilation, so the fireplace would have to be ventless.

Other condo units in my association have the same layout and use ventless fireplaces. It is an open floor plan, with no separation between the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

Are ventless fireplaces even legal? What are the advantages, disadvantages, and precautions to be aware of when using them?
