My wife and I own a condo that is part of a small 4 unit condo project in a old warehouse built in 1930 that was divided into 4 units however we all share the same roof. Recently new owners purchased unit A. We are in unit C. After doing an inspection of their unit the new owners noticed several areas that needed repairs and asked the Association to pay for the repairs above their unit. Considering we all shared the same roof we agreed but instead decide to repair the whole roof over all 4 units since its retrofitting was coming up shortly. During the inspection the roofer noticed that the skylights above my unit needed to be replaced or fixed. They couldn't start the job until I repaired my skylights for it would compromise the effectiveness of the new roof. I have never touched these skylights before and never replaced them, nor have I ever tampered with them. These are the original skylights. My question is, should I pay for their replacement out of my pocket or should the Association cover the cost of fixing them the same way we paid for the repairs on the roof on Unit A? Aren't the skylights above my unit also part of the common roof we all share? Thank you for any advice.
