Do I get a board seat since HOA director resigned?

We held elections for the Board this year. Our Board is only 3 seats. I was a candidate. Two candidates got the same number of votes, I was one of them. Since I am a seasonal resident, I agreed to let the other candidate to take the seat.
One of the candidates just resigned. Should I get the seat by default? Or has the Board a right to give the seat to another owner? I already wrote to the Board expressing my interest on the seat but so far I have not received an answer.  Florida
