Is our condo association's political contribution is illegal?

Question:

I recently discovered our Board of Trustees donated a $100 dollar check to a local politician here in NJ. I pointed out as a state non-profit they may be breaking the law. After a brief discussion the Secretary and Treasurer said, its not a problem we'll just change the name on the check. Are both the issuance of the check and the Treasurer remarks a violation of law? State of New Jersey.
