Should we drop condo manager and run association ourselves?

Question:

We run a 60 unit condo association in Connecticut. I am the treasurer. We currently have a management company that handles day to day issues, collections and contractor issues. Questions have been raised based on our financial situation if we would be better switching to a self managed situation where we discharge our agent and run the association on our own. I was curious if anyone else has done this had experiences with the process and can provide some upsides, downsides and extra costs that perhaps are not being accounted for if we went this way. Just looking for some advice. We have a very involved board that I think could handle it however I would like to hear the other side of the coin before even pursuing this any further.
