Owner paints part of common area. Condo association not happy

I had a friend who painted an inside wall for us. We have been told that this individual, for whatever reason, painted an outside area of our building with a different color paint. I did not know this at the time. He was not under contract for me. The COA is claiming I am responsible and need to repaint the area... am I responsible?
