Question:
I live in a small condo building in Chicago. The association has added charges to my ledger without a notice of violation, an opportunity to be heard, or a hearing. They have since added attorney’s fees (though they choose to go to an attorney on their own accord).
I am aware that they are acting improperly, but they refuse to remove these charges. I live in a building with many apathetic and scared unit owners who do not wish to get involved. I do not wish to cost the other unit owners more money, but I feel the association is painting me into a corner here.
What recourse do I have in a situation like this?
