Creepy condo president watches security cameras in his unit

Question:

I live in a 40 unit condo. Our security system setup is in the Board President's Apartment. Many unit owners are not happy and find this is illegal. They have a monitor setup next to their television. They can see everything what is going on in the lobby who is coming and going etc. Is this a common practice? There is no vendor involved.
