Should we turn our condo association into a gated community?

Question:

Looking for opinions or reasons to turn our condo association property into a gated or gated and fenced community. We are in Michigan. We've had a number of thefts over the years and some co-owners want to put up gates and possibly a fence all the way around. Looking for ideas and reasons to, or not to, do this. Any advantages or disadvantages? Thanks
