After Association Bankruptcy, Can the New Owner Charge Rent to the Unit Owners?

Question:

This question was submitted by Jeff from Georgia

My friend’s condo association went bankrupt and the buildings were purchased by another entity. To my knowledge, a new association has not been established. The new owner is acting as if he owns all the buildings and units. He even tried to collect rent from my friend and the other unit owners. This can’t be right, can it? What can they do?
