Do security gates increase HOA property values?

Our automatic security gate needs to be repaired and it will cost as much to replace it.  A few folks on the board want to just take it down and not replace it.  I am looking for help as to why we should keep it.  Obviously security, which crime is not bad but does not hurt to be preventive.  Do security gates increase property values or decrease insurance costs?  Florida
